About The House Our Atelier

The Atelier & the story it keeps.

Three generations of Italian shoemaking tradition — lasted, welted and burnished by hand in the same workshop since 1952. A shoe, we believe, is not made. It is slowly grown.

Four convictions,
held by hand.

I
Principio I · Tempo

Slow making.

No pair is rushed. Every upper rests on its last for fourteen days before the welt is sewn — the leather is allowed to remember its shape.

Lasted fourteen days, minimum.
II
Principio II · Materia

Italian materials.

Full-grain calfskin, vegetable-tanned in Tuscany. Only the upper third of the hide is selected; the rest is returned to the tannery.

Tuscan tanneries, aged 30 days.
III
Principio III · Durata

Lifetime construction.

Goodyear-welted soles can be replaced indefinitely. Every Fabiani pair is eligible for our repair programme — for as long as it is worn.

Resoled at the original atelier.
IV
Principio IV · Restraint

No decoration.

Detail exists only where it serves structure. Every line on a Fabiani shoe — every stitch, every broguing perforation — has a reason.

Form follows the foot.
Nº III
